The main challenge for a basement office is usually lighting. You will probably want to maximize natural lighting so you can work undistracted by dim surroundings. For a basement home office, we would recommend sheer shades, which can bring in more light while remaining closed. If you want to keep your treatments open while you work another simple solution would be roller shades or shutters, (both of which are also easy to clean and maintain).
If you have a basement bar, you probably want to maintain a specific, high-end aesthetic with your window treatments. We find that natural wood blinds are a popular option to maintain a classy atmosphere. If your basement tends to be humid, faux wood blinds are a good alternative as well. One other suggestion would be roman shades, which can give off an air of luxuriousness. (Especially true when paired up with lush drapery.)
The needs for a wine cellar tend to be very simple: block out the light. Blackout blinds are the best way to prevent light from coming into a basement with wine storage.
If your basement is just used for storage, you may be looking for the most affordable option. For simplicity and cost, nothing tends to beat out mini-blinds. However, if you want something easier to clean, we would recommend looking into roller blinds.
If you have very limited space in your basement, you may want to mount your window treatment inside the window frame. The best options to consider would be: woven blinds, cellular shades, mini-blinds, or custom shutters.
Small basement windows may seriously interfere with your plans to spruce up your basement. To make your look bigger, long hanging drapes is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Mounting them higher above the basement window tends to help with this as well.
If your windows are long enough, you may want to try plantation shutters that cover the lower half with a curtain on the upper half.
Pro Tip: If the windows are too small for this, one popular trick is to actually extend the shutter down over the wall.
If your basement is a secret escape from the outside world, you may just want to block out the windows as much as possible. Obviously, blackout blinds will take care of this handily. Another popular basement window option for privacy is cellular shades. But our personal favorite for maximizing privacy without sacrificing style would be adding roman shades mounted together with heavy drapes.
